Custom Farming/Grid Sampling
At Rea Seed, we are students of the farming operation as a whole. From spring to fall, planting to harvest, and everything in between, we've gained the experience and knowledge to grow a quality crop in diverse conditions and environments. With that, we are eager to help local growers achieve the same. We currently offer multiple in-field operations as a custom service including: anhydrous ammonia application, planting, spraying post-emergence herbicide and insecticide, and sidedressing liquid nitrogen to corn. ​​
New to Rea Seed is grid sampling, or taking soil samples in a pattern to accumulate a database of nutrient levels that are point-specific. All points are mapped on Ag-Leaders Mobile Mesa. Samples are then sent to Solum, Inc. in Ames, IA, where they undergo a moist-test. Results are then loaded in Ag-Leaders SMS software and soil test maps can be printed into a booklet or moved to a USB for variable rate fertilizer application. We can also map out boundaries and send these to the grower so that he/she can use them during planting, spraying, or other in-field operations. For more information, contact Mike or Calvin Rea.
